DEMON
"To delve into history is to light a timeless flame, where every page whispers an ancient name."
Demons are scary and mean supernatural beings. We are often afraid of what we don’t know, and that was probably true in the ancient ‘Stone Age’ times too! That’s when people may have first started believing in demons. This fear of the unknown and scary things is what demons are about.
Even way back in the ancient times, in the Near East and the early forms of Christianity and Judaism, a demon was thought to be a harmful ghost. They thought demons could possess people, which would need an exorcism. Even a lot of Jewish demonology, which influenced both Christianity and Islam, comes from a later form of the Zoroastrianism religion. This was passed on to Judaism during the Persian era.
Demons can be devils too, i.e., helpers of the Devil. But not everyone agrees on this.
In some beliefs, each demon does different bad things. Like causing natural disasters or specific diseases. In religions that believe in a main Devil (like Satan) who is always fighting against God, demons are seen as the subordinates of this main Devil. As these lower-ranking spirits carry out the Devil’s dirty work, their job also includes making humans think sinful thoughts and luring them to do bad things.
